An American cosmetics company, now owned by Estée Lauder Companies, headquartered in the Minneapolis and New York City. Aveda manufactures skin and body care, cosmetics, perfume, hair color, hair care products. They also train students in cosmetology, massage and esthiology at the Aveda Institutes. Aveda does not test their products on animals, but rather on willing human participants.

AVEDA History
Aveda was founded by hairdresser Horst Rechelbacher in 1978. In 1970, Horst was on a trip to India. There he was introduced to the science of Ayurveda (the traditional system of medicine and surgery in India), and got the inspiration to create Aveda. Today Aveda is part of Estée Lauder Companies Inc., based in New York.
To keep up with Ayurvedic principles and their concerns for the Earth, Aveda is forever committed to using organic ingredients. This has created partnership between Aveda and an Indian firm called Nisarga. Nisarga grows Ayurvedic herbs with organic agriculture, from here Aveda obtains organic herbs for their products. Aveda ensures integrity and quality products by using organically grown flowers and plants. Their goal is to provide beauty industry professionals with high performance, botanically based products that would be safer for service providers and their guests, as well as for the planet.
Aveda sells natural and organic cosmetics. In fact, the first ever products made by the founder of Aveda were, a clove shampoo and a cherry almond bark conditioner. He formulated these products in his own kitchen sink.

This range has 38 flower and plant essences including tonka bean, orange and ylang ylang, which are 98% naturally derived. The Cherry Almond softening shampoo deeply and gently cleanses with babassu and coconut-derived ingredients and Conditioner instantly detangles and conditions with prganic coconut oil and shea butter.
